At Google I/O 2026, Google introduced new AI powered ad formats for Google Search as the platform shifts toward Gemini driven AI generated answers, and more agentic search features. The update brings sponsored content directly into AI Mode, Google’s conversational search experience, while Google is also preparing information agents that can monitor the web, send synthesized updates, and support ongoing tasks like apartment searches, shopping alerts, or trip planning. The new ad formats include Conversational Discovery Ads, which can provide answer style replies to user questions, and Highlighted Answers, which add paid results to recommendation lists, such as sponsored app suggestions for product related queries. Google says all AI generated ads will be labeled as “sponsored,” while standard Google Search will also begin showing AI based ads in the coming months.
