Derivative work is a tricky area, and I myself have worried from time to time that I am too derivative, i.e. relying too much on other writers as models and exemplars. When does legitimate artistic homage or sampling or borrowing cross over into copying and plagiarism?That's not always an easy path to navigate, but the "generative #AI" boys aren't making paths through knowledge so much as they're bulldozing and flattening the whole forest. They would have us believe that shoving logs through an industrial wood-chipper and turning the chips into particle board is exactly equivalent an artist cutting down one selected tree for its lumber. ~Chara
