We never left the oral tradition era!The rise, dominance and varied uses of social media, conspiracy theories, #LLM / #AI chatbots, as well just how often things go undocumented or people preach Internet rumour like fact …Just goes to show that we really haven’t moved on from our oral traditions era. Structured knowledge systems are still a struggle for us and we fucking love our oral traditions.The Internet arguably has just made the tribalism less spatially bound. And LLMs made the oral tradition less consciousness bound. And neither, if day, have made structured knowledge better. If anything they struggle to keep up with there table stakes of printed texts. Structured knowledge storage, retrieval and maintenance in schools as fundamental now. Over “science” I’d say and probably many other things.
