Meta is adding an AI assistant and a new desktop version to its Edits video editing app

Meta has previewed new updates for Edits, its video editing app, with the main additions being an upcoming AI assistant and a desktop version. The AI assistant, currently being tested with selected creators, will use Instagram data such as views and retention metrics to help analyze video performance, suggest content ideas, and recommend trending audio. The AI features are not widely available yet, but Meta recently launched a similar tool for Facebook creators, pointing to a broader push into creator focused AI across its platforms. The desktop version is also coming soon, bringing larger screen editing, more precise controls, and project syncing between mobile and desktop, making Edits a closer competitor to other social-focused alternatives like CapCut, or more simple ones like Clipchamp.
